1. Fill up the 5 gallon bucket and pour it into the 3 gallon bucket, leaving 2 gallons. Empty the 3 gallon bucket and pour in the 2 gallons from the 5 gallon bucket, leaving room for 1 gallon in the 3 gallon bucket. Fill the 5 gallon bucket and use it to fill the remaining 1 gallon, thereby leaving 4 gallons in the 5 gallon bucket.
2.I'm not sure I completely understand this question, but I think you are asking which part of the boat travels the furthest....If that IS what you are asking, I would say it would be the stern of the boat.(by a boats length) or it could be the tip of the mast as it would be a slightly larger circumference around the earth.
