A TV program in Australia invited people to send in videos in which ordinary Australians "Addressed the Nation".

I did so promoting an idea similar to Edward de Bono's "King of Australia".

Of course I didn't capture much of the subtlety contained in de Bono's book, and maybe he would not be pleased to have his work distorted by an amateur.

Nevertheless, I did not feel it was right to sit idly by and say nothing, better to say something and maybe improve upon it later.

Check it out, if people like it I will post it in this forum also...

Frans,

I guess I'll continue to send videos to the ABC for fun, though the more I think about it, the less likely this avenue seems as a way of producing results.

My main strategy - building a web platform to deliver education is much more likely to succeed.

Watching Thursday night's show (Q & A) illustrates the problem - about half the show was dedicated to a discussion about sex crime, and the politicians spent most of their time promoting themselves rather than coming up with answers.

The ABC serves to cater for the lowest common denominator values of the people who watch it.

Public education serves to cater for the lowest common denominator values of the adults involved (teachers, parents).

I think if we keep on pushing the issue they will have to, one day. I gave Ret Symons a copy of Simplicity a while ago. From there I deduct that they organised that Local Idea's Campaign which I wrote about in my own blog yesterday. Q&A itself is just another form of a simplicity campaign. At least that's how I see it. Ret Symond also supported me a while ago to get the name of de Bono on air a few times. So I would not say that they are totally opposed to it. We could try to get back onto that simpleton first and see if we can make our way to TV from there.

Thanks Frans,

I will keep them coming. Got to make them shorter though if there's any hope of one of them getting on TV.

Not that this is likely anyway, I mean if ABC does not routinely put Edward de Bono de Bono on TV why would they want me?

But I'm learning a lot, and it's fun, and it's good to hear that some people are enjoying the videos.

Phil, I wouldn't trim my eyebrows if I were you. You would loose sight of your vision. I enjoyed both of them very much. Keep them coming. I like the credits at the end ;)

Despite my best intentions, I only got one video out this week...

Thanks Kathy,

I've received a number of encouraging remarks including yours but I've been too timid and haven't followed up with more videos. But I soon will.

Phil, I watched your video and thought it was well done. I enjoyed your humor and thought your style was quite commanding. Post it here, for sure.

Re "Remember, authorities don't accept suggestions or credit others - they bestow awards of notable recognition instead." I can't tell if this was a joke or a serious point. But many authorities come to mind who disprove the statement.

Franis,

Good point, I will amend future speeches accordingly.

Thanks Franis,

I'm grateful that someone likes my eyebrows, bushy ones have quite gone out of fashion. Aside from that people think I'm frowning angrily at them when really I'm just concentrating.

Former Prime Minister John Howard felt he had to trim his eyebrows before the voters made him PM.

I'm glad you laughed, even if I can't change peoples' minds it's pleasing to see that at least I can cheer people.

The deadpan delivery really works! Remember, authorities don't accept suggestions or credit others - they bestow awards of notable recognition instead. It''s actually the funniest when you start explaining yourself, almost apologetically. Sounds so much like laughable self-justification.
Very amusing.

It's your eyebrows that give you such natural authority. Too bad they're not gone gray yet, is there any way to bleach them? You'd look as if you have even more authority that comes with wisdom... maybe you could spray-paint them, as people do for Halloween here in the States. I'm deadly serious.
;o)
