Competition Entry - The All Cars story

All Cars is a Melbourne based chauffeured car business that wanted to provide a job despatch service which would offload surplus work between themselves and other operators.

They tried many different systems over the years: trunk radio, SMS, paging services and email. They tried for more than five years.

Some of these schemes meandered along like a car with three flat tires, while others went straight over a cliff.

Always there were perfectly reasonable… Continue

Competition Entry: Part 1 of 4

In discussing how the application of de Bono's methods lead to my success, I should point out that there are various definitions of success and many people would not rate mine highly.

My stories do not including the making of millions of dollars. Maybe I've been unlucky, or lazy, or missing some key ingredient in the recipe, or spending too much time doing things that I enjoy, hoping that these could be made profitable. A Lateral Look at the Dynamics of Organizational Change

Edward de Bono’s work has had a significant effect on my thinking since the late 1960s. I'll start out with how I used de Bono's thinking skills in the first five years after I ran into them from reading one little book called "PO". This book was the start of… Continue

Making it a part of normal business

The greatest challenge is not so much in the huge perspective shifts or the developing that novel world altering idea, rather it is in making the tools a part of normal day to day business. The real value of the tools is lost if they are seen solely as a means of “wiz-bang” problem solving.

Here in the Victorian State Government in Australia, we have now trained over 500 staff in the use of the Six Thinking Hats and are now starting to roll… Continue

My Success Story

As a managing director of a small IT company I faced with a difficult decision regarding the strategic direction of the company. After several away days with arguments at board and management level a friend recommended I try the six hats approach.

In 2 hours we had clearly and fairly discussed seven different options. 2 hours afterward that we had identified which direction to go in with buy in from all key members of staff.

I'm sure this is not as significant as some of… Continue
