A bit about me

Hi. I was a certified instructor back in1990s. Not been training for $ for some time. Continue to teach friends, colleagues and school kids.

I was a very good maths/science nerd in high school. Came across 6 hats in 1985 and "proved" it was rubbish. Understood it in 1986 while dodging radiation from Chernobyl in London. Developed thinking as a skill and became an instructor in the 1990's just as the thinking network was starting up.

Did a lot of business gigs but also spent several years teaching "an introduction to Lateral Thinking" at a community college.

I have started two internet businesses using Lateral Thinking as the method for coming up with the base ideas and designing the computer software, Tower Games and Fraxion Payments.

I'm married and have a 15 y.o. daughter. She has just passed the entrance exam for the Queensland Academy of Maths, Science and Technology. She is also a great painter, drawer and sculptor as well as being very good at fencing. My wife worked as a manager in the computer industry from its early days including Apple Computers and later Cisco Systems. I sing four voice harmony in a chorus and a quartet.

Fraxion sounds like an excellent idea. I'll be able to work on it more when I transfer my wordpress blog to my own website URL and install software, etc.
I'd be delighted to give feedback. Thanks for your work!

Aloha Danny,

Looks as if you don't even need the official welcome, because, obviously, you're practiced at making yourself feel right at home wherever you are. Hope you have a fruitfully long and interesting time here. From what you've already written, it looks as if you're going to be a really fun contributor who will find some fascinating people to engage with here!

Thanks for joining!

The Power of Movement with Online Communities

Posted on September 24, 2010 at 0:23 6 Comments

In the world of critical thinking and argument, if you wish to present a new idea you must have thought it totally through. You need to have considered feasibility. You need to have anticipated objections. If you have a mistake in your presentation or have missed an important factor then your presentation will be shredded and possibly tossed in the bin.

When you are online, as with this society, such a system of treatment of ideas must inevitably act as a fierce throttle on the… Continue

Really Using the Tools

Posted on August 23, 2010 at 1:22 1 Comment

There is a reason for having the Lateral Thinking tools, that is one of the value of formality. As Edward himself has said many times, people will often think they are using the tools when in fact they are not. Using the tools formally ensures that they are actually used. Similarly with the Six Hats or the CoRT and DATT tools.

As an example, many people suggest they used the red hat in a group setting by asking people what they feel about the issue. The red hat is about…
