"I'm not an academic at all but have lots of daft ideas. Can a wall of say lazer light be created enough to produce a dense light screen suitable to project say a video onto it? I learn by my mistakes, so I'm off to make some more."

All that you suggest is possible when commercial laser projection is available. You are suggesting a portable "drive in movie" with sound delivered by wireless. As to where one would go to pull this together, I haven't a clue. Just keep track of the emerging technology.

The answer is yes and there is a fairly large effort to develop a laser projection system for TV and cinemas. The main problem is developing a blue laser strong enough and cheap enough for commercialization. It takes three basic colors (usually red, green and blue) to produce most of the other colors in a projection system. Suitable red and green lasers exist now but blue lasers have been more difficult to produce.
