competition does bring one to his threshhold , but as a buyproduct results in jealousy etc. So i fully agree that something new should be generated so that coming to threshhold is retained , but jealousy part is done away with.
I see the competition as a bit of fun for those people interested. There are probably quite a few that aren't so it doesn't matter either way, nothing serious.
Interesting challenge, creating something more creative and innovative than competition.
My view is concepts are neutral. Positive or negative judgments are added (by me).
Reminds me of a joke by Dave Berg in Mad magazine.
