Hi everyone - it's time for me to leave this Group - I keep feeling I am letting myself be drawn into 'digging a deeper hole' - analysing 'what is' instead of helping to 'design a way forward' ... I have tried to learn not to do this over many years…

Profile Information

Hi ... I'm the Chief Executive Officer of the POWA Institute, (pronounced power) a not-for-profit Institute for new thinking located in Perth Western Australia, founded in 2006 in partnership with the de Bono Institute (based in Melbourne Australia) and dedicated to growing the thinking power of all West Australians to deliberately create better futures by applying Edward de Bono's thinking tools and processes.

I have been an accredited trainer in Six Thinking Hats, Lateral Thinking and Direct Attention Thinking Tools since 2001, trained by Susan Mackie Master Trainer, Susan is the CEO of the de Bono Institute and a Director on the POWA Institute Board.

I read Edward's Mechanism of the Mind when I was 20 in 1969; PO: Beyond Yes and NO soon after and was convinced the world needed lateral thinking. In the mid-eighties I introduced the Six Thinking Hats to my children ... in the early 90's I seriously started using PO and in 2006 after 7 years working in the Western Australian Department of Education and Training as an accredited de Bono trainer I decided it was time to get really, really serious about Edward's work .... so it has taken a while but now I am dedicated to developing the POWA Institute.

For those of you who know anything about Australia you may have guessed the pun by now - for those of you who havent - here's a clue: Western Australia is often abrieviated to "WA".

I am also undertaking my PHD part-time to explore what type of leadership will emerge when managers deliberately use authentic lateral thinking within the context of them understanding their organisations are complex adaptive sytems - anyone else working in this area please please let's have a chat!!

In the meantime check out our website at www.powa.org.au

Cheers to all - Ali

Ali, I've suggested a "Core Creative Team" based on those who wish to abide by set rules. Would you like to moderate and set the discipline?

If I told you that secret, it would no longer be a secret. OK. One day!

Donald's idea is splendid. Being a featured member is fun - you'll enjoy it!

Promise I'll tone down the over-analysis too... (Guilty as charged.) Please don't take my "talent" for analysis as a personal attack towards you - I really didn't mean it that way. I respect what you have to say - and your views needed to be said, because so many other people are thinking exactly the same as you wrote.

If you do leave the de Bono society, all your individual posts and threads will automatically disappear, (along with the contributions of others in the threads you started.) It would be a loss that I'd feel very sad about, because you've had so many wonderful things to contribute here. I'd blame myself. Please accept my apology.

Am very impressed by your credentials Ali. I feel you should be a featured member here for many reasons, and you have been overlooked! Have suggested it to Linda. Hope you don't mind?!

I hate the word too, most people think it is the entire concept of creativity. Morons.

Anyway, it was just something I had on this computer, more interesting things to come when I log in again from another machine.

Hi Ali,

I love to get over there and have a chat. Leave it with me and I'll see if I can dig up a Govt contact to start talking too.

best regards

Frank

Thanks Ali
The photo was taken in a train carriage somewhere in Italy last month.
I'm back at work now, head still in the clouds (or at least, the Sistine Chapel).
Good to hear from you...What a great site. Your POWA homepage looks good too.
