Exploring Six Hats
I would like to set up a journey to explore knowledge in each area of the six thinking hats.
It could be methodologies, knowledge, way of thinking, etc.
The output of our information gathering could be a list of books, movies, links, etc. Possible we could make all that knowledge accessible in a small e-book.
To illustrate my idea, some examples
- Red Hat: In his book Blink Malcolm Gladwell has described some excellent observations about `knowing immediately`.
- White hat: The same Malcolm Gladwell demonstrates the use of statistics to unravel societal developments
- Black Hat: recently I came across WikiRational, a wikipedia with critics on some standard accepted theories. Also, the whole literature of critical thinking belongs to the Black hat domain
etc.
Who would join=

I have practised Six Hats from the first publication of de Bono´s book, 1984??
First I will respond to your questions, then I will give some explanation of my proposal.
I am not sure "knowing immediately" is the word Mr Gladwell used in his book Blink. But it is about "on the spot decision making" as police officers sometimes have to, and then rely on experience. Also, Mr Gladwell describes an antiques dealer who immediately knows he has to do with a forgery, without further reasoning. It is about not accessible knowledge of reason, experience, intuition. (Another aspect of Red Hat thinking is emotions and feelings)
Black Hat is logical-negative thinking: negatives, disadvantages,risks,caution, difficulties, problems, ethical objections, why it will not work. You ask " how do you see its use, its value, beyond critical thinking?" , but I see it the other way around. I will depart from Black Hat thinking, as one of the fundamental thinking modes there are, and then to make it operational, to assign some tools to it.
So, an instrument you might use while wearing a Black Thinking Hat could be Critical Thinking, in order to seek faults in rational reasoning. For example by using a visual tool Rationale Rationale or using the methodology or 10 questions of Neil Brown and Stuart Keeley Asking the right questions
When risk is the focus of Black hat thinking, an instrument could be a methode of Risk Assesment or Kepner Tregoe's tool of Potential Problem Analysis PPA
My idea of the concept of the exploration is to assume the six hats as universal thinking modes. Saying that, could we instrument it more?
As Mr de Bono already did for some of the hats.
F.e. White Hat: Six Frames six frames for thinking about information. Also, most of the CoRT-techniques are focussed on information and looking for facts.
Also, some CoRT-techniques are instruments of Blue Hat thinking, f.e. AGO (Aims, Goals, Objectives).
And of course, Green Hat thinking is stimulated by using lateral thinking techniques.
Wouldn't it be interesting to write a collective book with the de Bono Society to instrumentalize the Six Hats?
In my opinion, Red Hat ,Blue Hat and Yellow Hat Thinking are Idea Sensitive Points.

Mostly optimistic, I think it is a good idea. to write something;-)
Sometimes writing is a way to explore a subject deeper, if it is only an "intellectual exercise" can be determined afterwards. As long as people who contribute does so with an open mind. Whatever you learn on a journey is better than standing still. -

Well, I am sure that with everyone's input it can be a bit of everything. Mozart like Mozart but also a bit of Jazz, Hip-Hip and Funk - an interesting Modern Classic!
Every musician interprets Mozart and not until you listen to several versions can you hear the differences and decide which one you like.
So now everyone with some ideas can just start writing!
I like music without any sound so I will be quiet;-) -

Oeps, I nearly slipped into an argument about your `position`.
Instead of that, I would suggest both of us do a PMI independently.
Focus: exploring tools, ways of thinking, methodologies and theories which could be an extension, an addition or an elaboration of one of the hats of the Six Thinking Hats
Asa, and of course other readers, do you also perform a PMI?

Are you saying that perhaps we can collect writing and ideas from others, showing how they are organized and related to Six Hat Thinking?
If so, I'm remembering a fascinating essay on how to ask productive, open-ended questions, (from the World Cafe people.) Their essay contribution, (which is all about how perception influences and directs answers to questions) would probably be in the blue hat section - because in their article they point out how specific questions determine structure.
I'll see if I can find that link so people can take a look at it. -

Usually a synopsis is written after you know what is going to be included that "wraps up" the package and puts the contents into an easily understood, concise form. I'm sure there are other characteristics of a synopsis I've not mentioned.
Since we haven't yet determined what might be included, perhaps you could state what you think makes a good synopsis?
What comes to my mind: Short; Poetic; Hopeful; Something easy to use & remember -

Writing a synopsis before you write the book is a way to plot a book.
Since this is an ebook the synopsis is not going to "sell" the book to an editor, instead it is used to focus the attention on what to include.
This kind of synopsis is not set in stone. By writing it, you have material for discussing how to contiune with the project rather than letting ideas simply float around.
A short outline on the aim with the book, and different focus areas as well as how these areas will be examined and explored. -

The essay that you mentioned would perfectly fit into the idea to explore supporting tools for each hat, in this case the blue one -
