Creative Team

Many years ago I set up a 'Creative Team' which operated for a while but died from lack of attention. I would like to ask you all to consider doing this again. 1000 creative brains! Please submit your ideas here. How you propose this would work.

Only Intelligent can be humourous

Cal,

Maybe in life you should never rule out the impossible;-)

It only takes one group to start showing some positive steps forward and then I am convinced that other people will be tempted not only to form little groups but also to facilitate.

Trying possible ways forward is always good.

Maybe all this could be discussed with Franis, since she has experince of "The Hub". So anyone who is interested in learning to facilitate a group could contact her:-)

Asa,

Maybe facilitating with Franis could be a way of learning? By doing? :)

Maybe even parttime? Or for a little time, and then let someone take over helping someone like Franis? Just thoughts, that might not fit for you, or fit right now.

Maybe Franis could be 'THe hub', and others work as even temporary 'sub-hubs' to her? Just trying to consider possible ways forward.

Cal,
I like the idea of Franis becoming a facilitator. She would make an excellent one.

She has got a lot of experience of de Bono thinking and she is trained in de Bono. And she also has a long list of other wonderful qualities.

I am not trained in de Bono thinking, I joined this site to learn;-)

But there are many other people on this site that are trained and have used de Bono thinking for years.

I am sure that some other people, apart from Franis would love to facilitate;-)

Getting back to what Adonis had posted as to what Linda had requested:

Linda ... sent this note back in April 2010

That was the request

Creative Team
Edward would be interested in setting up a Creative Team using members from the society. There are a number of things Edward would like members to consider and make suggestions about. A group will be set up to facilitate this discussion.

- Idea generation for companies that need it.
- One thousand creative brains for hire.
- A subscription fee arrangement both for (a) the business (b) the creative team
- Creative Ideas rewards.
- Creative video conferencing.
- Random idea generation for hire.

As Adonis has said, who is going to facilitate?

From some of the items listed above, it looks like they're targeted towards cash creation. One thought might be that whoever would facilitate, should be financially compensated from whatever funds might be generated (if any were generated).

If that didn't happen, maybe a small cash generating project or 2 could be carried out, with any profits after expenses going 1st to such as the facilitators to compensate them.

As far as who might facilitate, a couple thoughts:

- Franis
- Asa
- I haven't been following Asa's posts on the other threads - don't have enough time to spend right now - but Franis said previously she would like to collaborate with Asa, with both serving as 'hubs'. Maybe a Franis and Asa combination could be a possibility?

What I propose is to create guidelines on best practices where everyone can follow. We will also cover area of concerns and elaborates a bit of details on the future trends base on these guidelines (macro level). In another word, our discussion on the area of concerns is actually creating windows of opportunities for anyone who wants to take the ideas further. What we should be doing is strategize all areas of concerns at macro level based on these guidelines and not in piecemeal basis.

Until the time is right and with the resources available, we then create the windows of opportunities within this website. in the mean time, I prefer to leave the micro level details to the experts. In this way the intellectual property will be safeguard. They have to provide their own resources which we don’t have at the moment. At least we are providing a service to the society and environment by setting the right direction of the future for others to follow. We are creating the trends of the future (opportunities) with the guidelines on best practices in mind.

Adonis Halaris your point is well taken. I have been discussing this with some of the members.

NING is useless for facilitated work.

I designed a web application for doing facilitated work with specific lateral thinking support but there is no likely hood of implementing that any time soon.

There are some online collaboration web apps and it may be a matter of getting one set up on the societies server. Does the EDB Society have funds to allocate for such a thing? (another reason why the creative team needs some income).

My comments/thoughts, Adonis:

I have a friend who once told me about a construction company he knew of, where the owners didn't come around. The employees ran the thing as best they could. He labeled it 'management by abandonment'. It worked okay enough. Maybe that was due in part because of the particular situation.

That is pretty much how I feel about all this right now. There's been abandonment by management. If they want a group to discuss the matters they want discussed, and it's important enough to them, then they could help facilitate it, so they get what they say they want.

If that's not possible, then maybe the best potential facilitator/'hub collector' we have right now for this would be Franis.

I believe this is not a website to make money. If it is so, too many good ideas (intellectual property) will be withheld by the members. Nothing will be shared and eventually there is nothing interesting about this website. People lose interest and move on.

I believe I'd say that is true, in normal situations - which most all situations are. But maybe there could be ways of 'designing a way forward, while leaving the problem in place'.

For example, Danny had mentioned that there's a lot of people making money from recognizing and marketing other people's brilliance. If one were to look in places like filed patents, there's some pretty interesting ideas there, that didn't make it to the marketplace. That could've been because of things like the ideas needed some tweaking to get them more marketable, such as lowering their mfg. costs, or designing a little more value into them for the end user. It could be just a case of someone not willing to aggressively pursue marketing it. They're not 'wired' for that (part of this week I'll be testing a construction product for a company that's proven itself for over 25 years in Germany, but is just now coming to North America - brought over by an American who was/is in Germany, and who tried some while there. From comments on websites by those over here who've tried it already, it does sound very promising).

But all that does usually require resources, like time and money.

Right offhand, I do like your "What I’m proposing is that we should have a theme like what I’m suggesting “Social and Environmental Enrichment”. The theme becomes the central focus of everything we decide to do." Outside of that, if anyone does want to get together to pursue money making opportunities, then maybe something could be set up for that(?) I've done that before with others, on a project by project basis. None of them were 'macro' in size, though.

Cal. We may not be able to do it right now or even in our life time but our children will have their capacity to change the course of direction from what we have thought of today. The direction we are setting today will eventually become a reality only if we collectively put effort to do directional setting today. If we can't see the vision of tomorrow and correct it today, our children are doom to repeat our mistakes.

Word like "can" does not have an escape option. "Could" is weak and when you are lazy, you try to skip it by giving yourself to many excuses.

That was the 'other' post - a key concern - I'd considered mentioning about 'can' and 'could'. Thx, Willy.

Maybe in part it has to do with personalities and personal perceptions, but I could work with 'could'. Sometimes even better. In some ways it's like waving a red flag in front of me - I've been known to put in even more effort to make it so, when I've been told things like "You can't do that" (one instance is a current project I'm working on. I've proven that some of those 'can'ts' are wrong, with some 'power assist'/'cobotic' systems I'm building).

The sharing of ideas is the source of the directional making of “what can be”. To me, the directional setting acts as a guideline for best practices for individuals, companies, governments, etc. The acceptance is crucial for its success. It has to start somewhere and by being a member of this society, it is our duty to spiral out the goodness of these best practices to show others the way of the future.

What I’m proposing is that we should have a theme like what I’m suggesting “Social and Environmental Enrichment”. The theme becomes the central focus of everything we decide to do. It is the focal point for the creative teams’ conceptualize their ideas and sub directions of the respective groups.

Whether edb’s tools are used or not, it should not be an issue as the “what can be” did not specified the use of it. The usage can make your work more efficient and better and team members are encouraged to use it.

Working as a sub team promotes effectiveness and efficiency. However, commitment is the deciding factor. Do you have the time to participate in the group meeting? Do you have access to internet at the time of the meeting? Nothing cannot be resolved.

It’s good that someone take the role to compile the discussion. However, restricting the access to crucial information that other teams need can make them less efficient (re-invent the wheel) and effective (promotes substandard idea creation). There are a lot of talented members who can contribute but don’t know where to start or did not encounter the right discussion topic or something else. If we cut them off, we are actually restricting our opportunity to enhance our service to the society and environment.
