Thinking tools/frameworks improve thinking skill much more than discussion does. One reason is that in discussion it's very difficult to pay attention to the thinking process rather than the content (because the content is interesting).

Understanding vs Use (of the thinking tools)

Understanding will never lead to use. Use can only come from habit and habit can only come from practice.

Thanks. I liked #10.
That was a really cool summary Dennis. Thanks.
RH = a statement of one's honest feelings in 3 words or less without any explanation or justification
Using the first angers me. Prejudice isn't intuition.

Someone who appreciates that information is important and can make the effort to find relevant information
Well, here I don't qualify. I do like to pass on information to others, but I hate to create and read footnotes. I will talk on the phone to almost anyone though - so I rely on that to give me information rather than "real" research.

Someone who makes an effort under the to generate new ideas and alternative ideas
Forget the "making an effort" wimps, let's train those unimaginative people to actually come up with more than three ideas at time!

Aside from me needing some training in brevity, I do qualify on the other points. Brevity is what I'd gain if I studied formally, I imagine - oh, and being able to understand which sequences of the Six Hats were useful on the fly. Playing around at http://www.practisethinking.com has helped prove these things to me.

Hey Dennis, why didn't you use the Hat Icons? Here's how it would have looked...

What is a De Bono Thinker? ...
Someone who can openly acknowledge their red hat in any situation, eg, like it, don't like it etc.

Someone who can provide enthusiastic statements on something they do not agree with
Someone who can provide enthusiastic statements on something they like

Someone who uses blue hat to set an agenda and summarise concisely
Someone who makes an effort under the to generate new ideas and alternative ideas
Someone who recognises the importance of training in thinking skills since they realise that traditional thinking is embedded as natural, For historical reasons we are naturally critical and naturally disguise our feelings as logic.
Just like thinking skills - ya gotta USE THEM!

It's very easy to use them, once you know how - just copy the line of code... and change the colors from the word "yellow" to the other colors.

For instance this picture   is done by putting in this line of code into the sentence:

<img src="http://tinyurl.com/yellowhaticon"/> Don't change any of the spaces or the characters, or it won't work. Make sure you copied the whole line, including the <>s. When you're posting, you can check to see if it worked correctly by hitting the "html" button in the top of the text box, (the last button.)

With the Blue hat, you have to add the number 1 after the word "icon" So for this:  you would need to copy this into the line that you're writing:  <img src="http://tinyurl.com/bluehaticon1" /> in the line.

(Don't worry if the line of code breaks in another line, (as it just did here.) It will still work if you haven't changed anything.)
