Hi !

recently read an article in language Spanish;

http://www.eltiempo.com/culturayocio/Credencial/Encuesta-como-se-el...

Where have you;

-"Edward De Bono... obsessed is investigating through how they occur and appear from one point to another creative ideas and innovative solutions..."
After 20 years he recognized that never discovered how to generate the spark and achieved this magic, but learned and revealed how computers and how to get to successful solutions... " -

I previously thought that Edward De Bono had discovered the source of the creative spark.

So is the spark?

These are good questions to ask Edward de Bono when you meet him. (Of course, you will want someone to translate!)
How you arrange las fraces will imply an answer. Asking about the "spark" will give you an answer about origin or history.

"Please tell me how you imagine tools for creative thinkers." This question may get you a story about how de Bono imagined most of his tools. It is possible that he used the first of his thinking tools to imagine tools that followed.

It would also be good to ask about specific tools.

Such as:

How did you imagine the tool of the Six Hats? Why did you choose only those six?

How did you first imagine the design tool of the Septine? What happens inside of your thinking as you consider these seven points? What happens inside your thinking that allows you to come up with a creative idea that uses all seven points?
As I do not have access to the article in Spanish that has prompted your remars, but to my mind Dr. Edward De Bono with the use of 'Design Thinking' arrived at the concept of Lateral Thinking. That for creative thinking one has to go off track and has justeded various techniques. As we know now that most of our thinking problems are perceptional in nature. For instance, our perception of the word 'thinking' is similar to 'running' which conveys running on two legs. What if the two legs are tied togather,we will call it leap frogging or hopping as in the case of one leg.Correctly speaking, when we run on two legs only one leg touches the ground at a time, but hopping is not called running. A person running on four is said to be crawing while a dog would be said to be running. How about a man managing to run on hands alone ? The point I am driving home is that 'thinking'is taken as synonimous with critical thinking and following which youar are looking for a creative spark source .
Lateral thinking came before Design Thinking.
Always liked the de Bono admonition: Build a new perceptual assumption.

It is interesting how in any language the words for an action imply many other factors. "The Stuff Of Thought: Language as a window into human nature" written by Steven Pinker is a textbook about this subject.

This book may be a very difficult book to understand if English is not your native language, because it has so much content that goes beyond language. Then again, it may make learning English easier, because it spells out and groups into categories why so many expressions of English work the way they do. It's fascinating.

It is useful to me because I am teaching a skill that have students experiencing trouble describing their observations. I'm looking for what the linguistic assumptions are to help them. This book spells out many linguistic assumptions, which makes this book a very rare resource!
Certainly, the term 'Lateral Thinking' was coined before Design Thinking But the concept of LT is an off shoot of DR De Bono's doctoral work as referred in 'Mechanism of the Mind' which uses analytical thinking and I would like to call 'Pecceptional Design Thinking'
Although there are ways other than the language to express human feeling but language is certainly most powerful. Our command over it and our understanding of the denotation and connotation of the terms used certainly make all the difference. Thank you for the referred book that I will try to lay hands on.
Thank you for providing me food for thought.I will try to come up with some explanation.Meanwhile,I need to explain my earlier remarks about Design thinking. Holistic or Systems thinking existed even before Lateral thinking was conceived. In systems thinking one talks of systems Design and often starts with a systems design model (Incidently, I too had developed such a behavioural design model for the international transter of technology for my doctoral desertation, ref. IEEE Trans.Engg.Man.Aug 1976). In the case for Dr DeBono's Phd work on Mechanism of the mind,it appears to me (my flight of imagination !) that he would have used a perceptional/Conceptual behavioural design model.A model is arepresentaive of the system and not the system per se and a design model is one out of which various prototype models could be developed. by either increasing or dicreasing the number of elements or their complex connectivity. Thus behavioural design models are not precise mathematical or systems models with exact parameters but are capable of explaining the internal structure of the system vis-a-vis the inputs and outputs. In Dr DeBono's case Lateral Thinking Concept is the output emerging from his insight into the functioning of human mind. I would like to be enlightened by Dr DeBono himself or any of his senior trainers. It is true of all researchers that human mind follows the rule of Successive Approximation-that the mind keeps interacting with reality and improves its earlier stand. This is Evolutionary Cybernetics. Thus Lateral Thinking and its tools have evolved in this manner.
To encourage a computer to be able to think, you must tell it what to do So, there are some interesting parallels between the study of thinking skills and the study of Artificial Intelligence.

Isn't that what you are referring to with the terms "successive approximations" and Evolutionary Cybernetics? Of course, there are many other "operations" available.
By successive approximation I am refering to the itirative process through which human mind operates .All learning and self adaptive systems including AI systems follow this rule . A good example could be the auto correcting guided missile chasing a moving target. Lateral thinking to generate a new spark would also need to receive new inputs from tpt of the box of human thinking system. Could the existence of a thinking tree giveyou anew spark ?
Hello everyone!.

It is not my intention to advertise on books by other authors. I have quite a few years trying to find out where the ideas are born. And I wanted to share with you this video which I think is fun.

WHERE GOOD IDEAS COME FROM by Steven Johnson
Cool Video!
There's an environment where insightful dreams happen too. Knowing this may motivate you to set yourself up for this possibility.

First, the person needs to be working on something that matters to them. They need to be REALLY working on this project until they fall asleep while doing it. OK, so the person falls asleep. They dream...they dream of an amazing solution to what they have been working on! They wake up, and because the ability to record the solution is readily available - they manage to preserve the insight their dream state has provided.

A way of recording needs to be readily available - auditory-visual- etc. Setting the stuff up to possibly record dreams is necessary to catch these dream state messages. You want to make it easy to record your ideas from a comatose state of mind. All you need to do is turn on the web cam, the digital voice recorder, etc. and you can retrieve the insight from your dreams.

This is also a factor for having a place to take a nap in workplaces! Having a bed next to where you're working is key to gaining this benefit...
A method I originated as a child was motivated by wanting to have pleasant dreams on my favorite topics. Before I went to sleep, I would imagine myself selecting a movie reel from an enormous shelf with a title. Since I was one of the kids who was trained to thread up the old movie projector in my school, I knew exactly how to thread the dream movie into the projector. I would go through this threading of the reel onto the projector in my imagination. Then I would turn my imagination projector on...and fall sleep. At some point in the night I would see the dream I had selected. But I could only select the topic or title, not specify the content - just as we can't really know what's in a movie until we see it.

I would love to know how many other members here use some sort of dream state for their problem solving methods - and how it works for them.
I think that you are speaking to have lucid dreams. I personally do not control this technique, although I would like to.
Anyway, there is a group here in the bono society which talks about this topic.
Here the link; creative dreaming
In that group, a few people "left" the deBonoSociety.com and so all of their posts are gone.

Lucid dreaming requires practice and patience.
Here are some suggestions:
Put by your bed a dim light & a way to record the dream. Every night, tell yourself that you want to remember your dreams. Be patient. After about two weeks or so, you will begin to remember parts of your dreams. Smoking pot & drinking alcohol can take away dreams.
It may help to remember if you return to the same sleeping position and drowse a bit. Ask yourself, what was the feeling in that last dream?
As you can remember your dreams, later you will be able to realize you are dreaming while in a dream.
