My latest book (published July 2nd) is called 'THINK: before it is too late'. In it I suggest that the biggest problem facing humanity is not climate change but inadequate thinking. We are very complacent and even proud of our thinking. We can land men on the moon. WE can tap atomic energy. We have the internet, WE have supersonic flight etc. We have done very well in the area of science and technology because we have developed 'thinking for finding the truth'.

I have suggested the new word 'ebne' which means excellent but not enough. Our existing thinking is ebne but not enough. We have never developed 'thinking for creating value'.

In conflicts we rush to judge who is wrong and seek to punish that party. We do not try to design a way forward.

I finally got a copy and just finished reading it. As usual there is repetition and as usual there are interesting new ideas. I found improvements in the way old ideas were explained.

It occurred to me that if this book were written by anyone else it might be considered a masterpiece, but because it's written by Edward de Bono, peoples' expectations are too high. I suspect that the book would be much better received and sell more copies if just one word were altered:

"Think. Before it's too late.

by Grampa de Bono"

Of course it is hoped that potential purchasers would have a generous, old-fashioned view of Grampas:

- Eccentric and fun, (unlike parents who are forever nagging and telling you to be sensible).
- Have been around for many years, and have first hand experience in things we will never see ourselves.
- Like to tell stories of their achievements, sometimes telling them more than once.
- Get very cross with anyone who tries to belittle their achievements.
- Can be dismissive of people of young people who agree with them: "What would you know?"
- Have time to be concerned about issues that everyone else is too busy to attend to.
- Irreplaceable.

Ronald Reagan used to preface his opt-repeated stories with something like, "Well you know life begins at forty, but then so does the tendency to tell the same stories over and over."

Thinking is as needed for humans as oxygen is needed to live.

Do we suffer from ... NOPO Thinking?

A collector of NOPO thinking suffers angst in weird ways
However, a collector of PO thinking brings delightful insights

A NOPO will injure a PO
A NOPO is defending what is
A PO is focusing on what can be

Can we suffer from a NOPO syndrome?
We certainly can!

So, how do we neutralize a NOPO orientation?

Any insights in the new book?
